SIZING & FIT

NECK + CHEST

The most important measures when deciding which size of a Chukchi harness will fit your dog are 1) the chest, and 2) the neck.

Go up one size or choose the larger size if between sizes. if in doubt always just contact me with measurements and please include your dog's approximate weight and its breed(s)!

Measure around the neck at its base - where the neck connects to the body above the shoulder. Notice, if your dog has a very wide head please check with me on size!

Measure the chest circumference at its deepest point - this varies from breed to breed / dog to dog - on some dogs its a little ways behind the front leg, and others its right behind the front legs.

FIT & CLOSURE

The Chukchi harness should easily glide over the head of your dog and sit comfortable around the neck -- not super tight!

Close the belly strap with the belly strap going under the deepest part of the chest on your dog - then choose the button hole that allows you to have the width of two fingers between the dog and the strap. You want it so that the dog can sit as well as curl up (when resting) without the strap being so tight it digs into the dog.

I most often fold the strap back up to put the button through another buttonhole.

The strap will slide back as the dog is running (making it look loose, cause it is no longer under the deep part of the chest), but it is the correct fit. A Chukchi harness is a loose fitting harness and it will slide around on the dog as the dog chooses how to run / where the pressure point lays on its body.

To decide the right size harness for your dog, measure the neck on your dog - you do so by measuring around the neck right above the shoulders where the neck meets body as showed on the picture.
To decide the right size harness for your dog, measure the chest on your dog - you do so by measuring around the chest in the spot where the chest is the deepest as showed on the picture.
The right fit for this style dog harness is when you can get two fingers between the strap and the rib cage - this ensures that the dog can comfortably both sit and lay down to rest in the harness as well.
This style dog harness is secured on the dog with a strap that goes around the chest / rib cage of the dog - when the dog runs it will slide back and look like it sits a bit loose. This is the correct fit!
The Chukchi harness is secured by a button - once you have selected the right buttonhole (two fingers width between strap and dog), fold the strap down over the button for a second time to secure the strap best possible!
Best closure of the harness is to fold the strap down over the button a second time.
